N'Western St will look to improve its 0-0 conference record against App St. this week

For the first time this season, Northwestern State will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. The Demons and the Appalachian State Mountaineers will face off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Falcon Stadium. The Mountaineers took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on the Demons, who come in off a win.

Northwestern State's contest last Saturday was billed as a coin-flip, but they had other ideas. The Demons blew past Baldwin Wallace 37-17.

Owen Allen had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 163 yards and 4 touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Allen showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 63 yards.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Northwestern State, adding 13 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Neil Barnes: he added nine points with three field goals and another four by kicking extra points.

Meanwhile, Appalachian State's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Saturday after their third straight loss. The Mountaineers found themselves as the unfortunate recipients of a 44-24 punch to the gut against Georgetown.

Despite the defeat, Appalachian State saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Will Henderson III rushed for 87 yards and 1 score on only 10 carries. The team also got some help from Owen McCown, who threw for 312 yards and a pair of TDs (1 INT) while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt.

Northwestern State made their fans wait, but they earned their first win of the season to make their record 1-2. As for Appalachian State, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

The run defense will be put to the test in this one.
